Cruelty-Free & Vegan Perfume 2026: We Investigated 100+ Brands

by Suzana Rose

May 1, 2026

If you're looking to make better choices when shopping for perfume, I hope this list will be helpful! I've reached out to both designer and niche brands, as well as smaller companies, and I'm happy to finally share all my research. You'll be able to find cruelty-free perfume at any price point, from affordable to high-end.

The 25 Best Cruelty-Free Fragrance Brands

🐰 Top Recommendation: Skylar (100% vegan)

Buy from Sephora ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $90

One of my personal favorites when it comes to perfume is Skylar, because they have so many options to choose from, and because they're one of the very few brands to be fully transparent about their ingredient list. Vanilla Sky (above) is one of my favorite scents for them and you'll love it if you're a fan of vanilla fragrances in general! They have 20+ fragrances to choose from including some unisex scents that make a perfect gift for the men in your life.

2. Phlur (100% vegan)

Buy from Sephora ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $99

Phlur, which vaguely stands for "Fleur", the French word for flower, is a fragrance brand launched by influencer Chriselle Lim. I personally really love the aesthetics behind the brand as much as the scents themselves, and I would say it's one of the top brands out there for this reason. This brand can be found at Sephora. Phlur fragrances are actually greener (as in less toxic) than traditional fragrances and are under the "clean at Sephora" category.

3. Pacifica (100% vegan)

Buy from Ulta ($)
Price per 59mL bottle: $27

Pacifica is most well-known for their makeup and skincare, but they also have a ton of fragrances to choose from. This brans is great if you're a perfume newbie, because they have a huge selection of scents. Plus they're affordable and 100% vegan! A full-size bottle is only $27, and you can buy them online from their own website or from drugstores such as Target.

4. NEST Fragrances

Buy from Sephora
Price per 50mL bottle: $92

NEST Fragrances are available in stores like Sephora, and they're one of the few options that are easy to find. Luckily, they're also high-quality and sophisticated scents which make perfect gifts. They also offer perfume oil which doesn't contain alcohol. I was always drawn to their fragrance because of the beautiful, dark packaging with florals.

5. By Rosie Jane

Buy from Sephora ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $75

This company is focused on creating fragrances that smell great while also being better for the environment. Their packaging has no single-use plastic, they use FSC packaging which means the cardboard is sustainably-sourced, plus they have clean formulas that are 100% transparent. Along with Skylar, this is one of the few brands that publishes their entire ingredient list. Most companies see their ingredient list as being "proprietary", however this means that they can include ingredients that are potentially harmful.

6. The 7 Virtues

Buy from Sephora ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $88

I really wanted to include this company because they create perfume with a message. Their slogan is "Make Perfume, Not War" and they source their fair-trade ingredients in countries that are being rebuilt after being destroyed by war. You can buy their Eau de Parfum from Sephora and they're very fairly-priced. Do check them out!

7. Lush

Buy from Lush ($$)
Price per 30mL bottle: $60

I'm sure you've all heard of Lush by now! They carry some nice spray and solid perfumes. Their spray perfumes are alcohol-based and run for about $50 a bottle. Although my favorite fragrance of theirs, Sikkim Girls, has been discontinued, they have so many wonderful scents to choose from. Visit your local Lush store to check them all out!

8. Pinrose

Buy from Amazon ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $90

Pinrose is another brands that got on my within the past few years, and they're fully cruelty-free. They have fun branding and their bottles are great to display, in addition to the scents being complex. They're also available at Sephora which makes them easy to find. They describe themselves as a "fun and fearless" brand.

9. Le Labo (parent company not cruelty-free)

Buy from Nordstrom ($$$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $230

Please note that Le Labo has entered the Chinese market since this post was published. They currently have stores in Shanghai, Beijing, and more. Because they have been unresponsive about their new animal testing policy since opening these stories, we have had to move them to the grey area and we no longer recommend this brand.

Although they've been recently acquired by Estee Lauder, Le Labo remains cruelty-free and still have not entered the Chinese market. "We believe that there are too many bottles of perfume and not enough soulful fragrances", they state. You can purchase Le Labo from Nordstrom as well as from their own stores. They're priced on the higher end.

10. Arquiste

Buy from Arquiste.com ($$$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $90

Arquiste is one of the few niche perfume brands that are 100% cruelty-free, as they have confirmed that they don't test on animals at any point during production, and neither do their suppliers or any third parties. They also don't sell to China. This company is US-based, and their Eau de Parfum retails for $165 to $190.

11. D.S. and Durga

Buy from DS & Durga ($$$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $210

100% cruelty-free company that creates fragrances in small batches with "premium-sourced raw materials". Their inspiration includes "outdated herbal wisdom, native ritual medicine, lore and legends, historical movements and Americana." A bottle retails for $210 to $300 depending on the size and you can purchase them from their own website or from Saks.

12. Floral Street

Buy from Floral Street ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $89

This perfume company is very aptly-named, and you'll absolutely love their scents if you're a flower lover. Their bottles are also so pretty, with colorful florals and a sleek design. They have the "clean at Sephora" badge, so their ingredients are on the cleaner side. Their full-size 50ml bottles are priced at $89.

13. Maison Louis Marie

Buy from Sephora ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $93

This is another popular brand available at Sephora, and you can also find them at clean beauty stores like Credo. They're phthalate-free and paraben-free, but their scents have a lot of longevity. The packaging is super minimalistic and their scents are on the natural side. If you love candles that smell amazing, they offer those as well.

14. Billie Eilish Fragrances (parent company not cruelty-free)

Buy from Official site ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $62

Billie Eilish has recently launched a line of fragrances, and we were so happy that this entire line is not only cruelty-free but also 100% vegan. Since Billie Eilish herself is vegan, it's great to see that she didn't overlook the ingredients in her products. Her perfume collection currently has 3 scents, and they're available all over the world.

15. Clean (100% vegan)

Buy from Clean ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $75

The brand Clean (or Clean Beauty Collective) has been a pioneer in safe and eco-conscious products since 2003. Their ingredients are not only vetted to be healthy for consumers, but also responsibly-sourced and sustainable. They provide a fully-transparent ingredient list, unlike many of the mainstream alternatives, plus their ingredients are vegan across their entire collection.

16. Henry Rose

Buy from Sephora ($$-$$$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $120

Founded by Michelle Pfeiffer with the principle that we shouldn't have to sacrifice quality for safety, Henry Rose really focuses on ethics. For example, they don't source materials from endangered or threatened plants or ecosystems. Their scents are amazing, and you can find them at Sephora.

17. Abbott NYC

Buy from Abbott NYC ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $88

Apart from being kinder to the animals and healthier for people, Abbott also heavily focuses on giving back. A portion of every full-size bottle is donated to a local cause that supports the environment, like Sheep Mountain Alliance and Sequoia Parks Convervancy. Their fragrances are amazing, especially for those looking for woodsy, earthy, or airy scents.

18. Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney herself being an animal lover, her line of fragrances is also 100% cruelty-free. It can be challenging to find designer perfumes that are not tested on animals, since the vast majority are available in China. Although her fragrances are being discontinued, you can still find them in some stores.

19. Lolita Lempicka

Buy from Lolita Lempicka ($$-$$$)
Price per 30mL bottle: $71

Starting with their legendary debut fragrance Le Parfum, Lolita Lempicka currently has many scents to choose from. Not only is their packaging whimsical, but they actually focus on sustainability and conscious practices across their entire company. They're also 100% vegan in addition to being cruelty-free.

20. My Daughter Fragrances

Buy from My Daughter Fragrances ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $76

A small and lovely company creating perfume without harmful ingredients such as phtalates or parabens. Their perfumes are made in France and retail for $85 each. You can shop at MyDaughterFragrance.com.

21. Honoré des Prés

Buy from Honore des Pres ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $98

You can also go the natural way with a brand like Honore des Pres, who create beautiful high-end perfumes using 100% natural ingredients. Absolutely no synthetic ingredients, and a full-size bottle retails for under $100.

22. Wit & West

Buy from Wit & West ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $90

Wit & West is a small-batch botanical perfume company based and made in the USA. We love Wit & West because they're cruelty-free, 100% vegan, and made from conscious and natural ingredients with no phthalates. Their brand philosophy is to create unique scents, so you don't smell like everyone else.

23. Auphorie (100% vegan)

Buy from Auphorie ($$$)
Price per 15mL bottle: $208

Auphorie is a Maison de Parfum dedicated entirely to highly original luxury handcrafted perfumes and scent solutions, made in small batches using an eclectic selection of the finest natural extracts and innovative raw ingredients." They're 100% vegan.

24. Tsi~La (organic)

Buy from Tsi-La ($$$)
Price per 15mL bottle: $145

They're completely organic and natural, but also 100% vegan. A full-size perfume bottle starts at $145, and you can buy them from TsiLaOrganics.com.

25. Dossier (Newly added!)

Buy from Dossier ($$)
Price per 50mL bottle: $49

Dossier creates affordable, high-quality scents inspired by classic luxury fragrances. This is especially amazing for us cruelty-free shoppers since it's the only way for us to purchase "dupes" of all the designer and niche perfumes we can't normally buy. Some examples include Tom Ford's Lost Cherry, Yves Saint Laurent's Black Opium and Libre, and even Baccarat Rouge 540 by Maison Francis Kurkdjian.

About Our Vetting Process

At Cruelty-Free Kitty, we communicate with brands to find out their complete animal testing policy. Once they're able to answer all our questions, we categorize the brands as either being cruelty-free, not cruelty-free, or in the grey area.

Look for the symbols in the list to find out their status. Please note that the list features all brands regardless or their status. Not all brands listed are cruelty-free! We're listing all the brands in our database in order to make it easy to spot which ones are cruelty-free, and also which ones aren't.

Cruelty-Free

A cruelty-free brand is a brand that confirmed they don't test on animals at any point during product, and neither so their suppliers or any third parties. This applies not only to finished products but also to ingredients. We also ensure that these brands are not available for sale in stories in markets which require animal testing.

Not Cruelty-Free

These brands are not considered cruelty-free according to our standards. This means that their finished products or ingredients are tested on animals, either by the company itself, its suppliers, or a third party. Often, these brands are sold in markets which require animal testing.

Please note that these are just some of the brands that test on animals, and this list isn't exhaustive.

Grey Area

Brands in the grey area either didn't provide enough information regarding their animal testing policy, were unresponsive after several attempts to contact them, or use loopholes to sell in markets that require animal testing. A brand in the grey area does not necessarily test on animals. They could be cruelty-free, however they chose not to disclose any information with us.

How We Choose Brands

We choose the brands we look into based on popularity and global availability. This means that we list the brands that are the most requested. No matter where you live in the world, you'll spot brands that you're able to find in stores in your area.

Our goal is to make it easy for you to find cruelty-free brands no matter where you live, and know which ones to avoid as well.

The brands included in this list either specialize in fragrance, or their product line includes at least one popular fragrance. We've included budget-friendly options such as Pacifica, as well as niche fragrances like Maison Louis Marie.

At the end of the post, I go over the best cruelty-free perfume brands and where you can purchase them.

Why are so many perfume brands not cruelty-free?

As you can see, the vast majority of designer brands are not cruelty-free, the major reason being that they're widely available where animal testing in required by law.

One more thing I gathered is that a lot of these designer fragrances are licensing deals. And as you might have guessed, the licensers are industry giants that test on animals.

For instance, Procter & Gamble has a lot of fragrance licensing deals which include Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Escada, Hugo Boss, Escada, Lacoste, and more. Coty is another big one and owns Balenciaga, Chloe, Marc Jacobs Fragrances, Vera Wang, and Guess among many others.

Niche fragrances that are not cruelty-free include: Acqua Di Parma, Atelier Cologne, Cire Trudon, Jo Malone, and Odin.

Full List is Fragrance Brands We Investigated

You'll find our full database of fragrance brands below. This list includes cruelty-free fragrance brands (in green), fragrance brands that test on animals (in pink), and fragrance brands that are in the grey area (in purple). Please see the legend below for details.

3. Companies With No Response

I've also contacted the following companies, but haven't heard back from them. This doesn't mean that these companies test on animals. However, it's often a red flag when a company refuses to share their animal testing policy.

  • L'Artisan Parfumeur
  • Lattafa
  • Carven
  • Serge Lutens
  • Amouage

I'll be adding companies here as I contact them. When I do hear back, I'll be moving those companies to the appropriate section.

4. Companies With Unclear Policies

There are some companies that refuse to give us their full animal testing policies, or remain vague about some aspects. I couldn't trust these brands as being fully cruelty-free, so here they are, along with the explanation.

1. Elizabeth And James

The Olsen twins own this brand. They make a fragrance called Nirvana, which is a best-seller at Sephora.

elizabeth-and-james-animal-testing

According to PETA's Caring Consumer list, Elizabeth and James Fragrances are cruelty-free. But when I reached out to the brand, they couldn't answer a single question about their animal testing policy. This is the only answer they gave me:

The Elizabeth and James Nirvana products are not tested on animals.

Elizabeth and James are licensed to a company called Butterfly Beauty LLC. I reached out to them but received no response.

2. TokyoMilk

TokyioMilk is a company I've tried to contact multiple times but never heard back from. Years ago, they were in the process of acquiring Leaping Bunny certification, but they stopped the process and never followed through. This to me raises a red flag.

I hope this post is helpful to all the perfume lovers out there! I'll be updating this list as I hear back from companies, so keep an eye out for that as well.

The more people go cruelty-free, the sooner we can end animal testing. Thank you for sharing.

  • Cris says:

For those asking about CLEAN fragrances, I wrote them and received the following reply.

Thank you for contacting CLEAN! While we do not claim to be vegan, as part of the CLEAN credo our products are non-animal derived and we do not test on animals.

In addition, we do not sell our products in markets that require animal testing.

    • CarolCats says:

Thank you so much for this information. I’ve been searching for CF cologne for over a year. I’ve purchased Ellis Brooklyn and Pinrose with the hope that these two brands are truly CF. Yesterday I shopped at Sephora and could not resist the Clean Cologne sampler package. And I do like every one of these fragrances.

      • Cris says:

Hey Carol, you are very welcome, was thrilled when I got that reply, hope they remain CF! Their entire line is really nice, I especially like their Sueded Oud,it’s a creamier oud and nice rounded scent. I may have to go back and purchase more, the sampler package sounds like a great idea. By the way, Commodity also at Sephora has some incredible scents, have you tried them? Just purchased the new scent Nectar (LOVE for the summer), Vetiver and Orris all in travel sizes. Also got Sun Saint by Pinrose for my summer basic everyday summer scent, I just love it.

does anybody here know if Dsquared2 is cruelty-free? I mean nobody is a fan of the Wood series(which hardly could be replaced)?

As I live in a russian city of Samara, it’s really hard to get to cruelty free fragrances and perfumes. There used to be Lush stores, but now they are all closed, so it’s really unfair and kind of ridiculous – unless you live in Moscow, St.Petersburg or else large russian city, you can’t get to smell and try the perfumes yourself. Same goes for many online stores, that just don’t ship perfumes to Russia. Recently I started to go cruelty free on my make up and skin care first, but when I got to my perfume collection I was almost deadly disappointed – I’ve bought YSL Opium Black and Prada Candy almost two years ago, and now it turns out that both brands test on animals. What a shame, really. And then I stumbled on Eden Perfumes, which would be the best option, but they don’t ship to Russia. Guys, i’m stuck. I would really appreciate if someone can point out to a possible way of getting cruety free perfumes. Love, Alice

Zoologist Perfumes. They say they are cruelty-free as far as the making of fragrance goes, but as a small niche brand I wasn’t sure if they were selling to China? Anyone know?

  • Carly Moorhouse says:

Rituals do a cruetly free perfume range

  • Carly Moorhouse says:

Rituals also do cruelty free fragrance

Hi, would you be able to tell me if Hollister is cruelty free? I’m on the understanding that Abercrombie & Fitch are & they own Hollister… but can’t find definitive answers. ???

Hi I just wanted to know if you know if Zara’s perfumes are cruelty free by anymy chance?

  • Lou says:

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for this article (read- Major Project). As a perfume lover and vegan I appreciate it so much and return to it frequently. I can’t imagine the amount of work you have been putting into it. Big love to you. For the animals <3

  • Mary Jo says:

I’m starting to transition to cruelty free products. The only perfume I wear is Ralph Lauren Romance. Can anyone make any recommendations on something similar that is cruelty free please?

  • Jess says:

What about coty? I’m curious bc I’ll stop buying my favorite perfume f it’s not cruelty free.

  • CarolCats says:

I do appreciate so much the research that has to be done regarding this list of cruelty-free colognes. Is Ellis Brooklyn truly cruelty-free? I plan to purchase the rose fragrance but am waiting to learn this company’s CF status. Is Pinrose cruelty-free? Sephora does stock Pinrose as well as Ellis Brooklyn. Lavanila is no longer stocked in the Sephora shops – at least not in my area. I don’t trust Tocca fragrances. But I would like to read a knowledgable response regarding Tocca’s CF fragrances.

    • Cris says:

Pinrose is in fact CF and vegan, enjoy! If you’re at Sephora try out Commodity as well, lovely, unique and sophisticated scents as well.

  • Ivette says:

Hi! I reached out to Tory Burch and they stated they are cruelty free and I beleive they are also Vegan. It’s a beautiful smelling perfume and you can go smell test at Macys, which is convenient. I was using it before I switched to cruelty free products (it was something I had not thought about before, guess I assunmed companies didn’t). I was so happy to hear they are cruelty free. I wish Ralph Lauren was cruelty free. I absolutely love their Midnight Romance fragrance 🙁

    Thank you so much xx

Has anyone found out about Thierry Mugler perfumes? I’ve seen the question asked here many times, but no answer.

    Thanks

  • Chloé says:

Lolita lempicka is now cruelty free and has stop selling to china earlier this year according to peta france.

  • Trish says:

Hi, i must applaud you on this very well researched article. However why the asterisk on ‘the body shop’ and ‘molton brown’ in the list of cruelty free products?

    • Suzi Scheler says:

Thank you! They’re owned by a company that tests on animals, although they’re cruelty-free themselves. I have to point out that The Body Shop was recently acquired by Natura, and Natura’s status is still unknown.

  • Elizabeth Turetsky says:

Thanks Suzi! Do you have any info on Hermes?

  • Sasha Zambrano says:

Hi Suzy, what about Carolina Herrera fragances?? Are they cruelty free? thanks!

  • Ceci M says:

I just found Commodity and it is delicious! I came here to double check it’s no animal testing claim and I’m thrilled to see they don’t test on animals, woot! Their “Rain” perfume is heavenly!

    • Cris says:

Hi Ceci, I feel the same way, their scents are very unique. Just bought Nectar for the summer and love it ? time for another trip to revisit Rain ?

I reached out to Swedish niche house Agonist Parfums, and they replied that they do not test on animals. Here’s a screenshot of our Facebook Messenger exchange: https://imgur.com/a/QHVHC

Thank you for all your brilliant efforts and the work you do on behalf of animals (and us humans!). I have 2 comments:
Penhaligon’s – I used to wear several of their perfumes, but stopped doing so over 10 years ago, when I discovered that they were using animal ingredients that involved surgical removal – obviously with some animals dying. They sourced some ingredients that were at the extreme end of animal cruelty.
I am surprised – and delighted – to hear that they have done a complete U turn – perhaps influenced by changes in legislation with regard to ingredients – and have moved forward on eradicating every aspect of animal cruelty. Hats off and a bow to them for doing this.

“Antonia’s Flowers” perfume company – do you have any information on her perfumes, please?

Again, thank you for all that you do x

is Nicki Minaj,Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Beyonce, and One Direction perfumes cruelty free?

  • Rita says:

    any news about Stella McCartney?

    • Chloé says:

Still not talking about if they do ship to china. Stella uses silk and wool in her designs so wouldn’t suprise me if she tests. Just found an article on South china morning post and it says she has stores in bejing china what sell her products including perfumes..she cares about animals yeah right..She has perfume produced by an animal testing brand and has a partnership with her other products owned by some french group what own gucci and other not so cruelty free brands.
