The following list consists of companies that are not cruelty-free. Its main source is PETA, and we’ve supplemented it with our own research. These brands engage in animal testing OR fund animal testing in some capacity, the most common example being by testing on animals where the law requires it. Also note that some of the brands listed here misleadingly label themselves as “cruelty-free”, a term that is not regulated.
Big Corporations Who Test On Animals
Most of these brands are owned by a few giant corporations: L’Oreal, Estee Lauder, Procter & Gamble, Clorox, Johnson & Johnson, S.C. Johnson, Colgate-Palmolive, Reckitt Benckiser, Church & Dwight, Unilever, and Henkel.
These companies own the majority of the brands we commonly find in most retailer stores and drugstores, and they’re making no real efforts to change their unethical policies.
There are however two exceptions, the first one being Colgate-Palmolive, which have agreed to gradually change their policy. PETA currently lists Colgate-Palmolive as “working toward regulatory changes to reduce the number of animals used for testing”. This does NOT mean the company is or will be cruelty-free in the near future! It’s only a small step in the right direction, and the company still DOES test on animals at this point.
The second exception consists of a few select brands. While in most cases, brands that are owned by companies that test on animals are not cruelty-free, L’Oreal is one of the few companies to own brands that have kept their ethical stances and have remained cruelty-free under the ownership. The same goes for Too Faced and Becca (now owned by Estee Lauder but still cruelty-free) and Tom’s of Maine (Colgate-Palmolive). All the brands mentioned on this list, however, do test on animals.
Please note that this list is not exhaustive. This list only includes companies that claimed they test on animals at some point, or sell in China; there are many other companies who remained silent about their animal testing policy.

I’ve recently changed skin care products and now use Tropic but I’m not seeing Tropic on any list? Can you help at all with this, they state they are cruelty free and vegan based? Also looking for Limelife by Alcone? Not on a list who also state cruelty free. Many thanks Emma Cooper xx

So disheartening to see so many progressive companies, especially the likes of Origins. I can’t find Stella McCartney fragrances in any list. I know her fashion is line is vegan and I would have thought her fragrances were cruelty free but I have no idea! I’ll have a look on the website. Thank you for this! I always double check now before I buy anything. Is it cruelty free? Yes, you can buy it! Makes life so much easier!

I have been buying from a small cosmetic Brand in Lebanon and when I emailed them and many more to find out since they don’t have website, no one answered. So i posted on my Instagram Stories and tagged them and they answered saying they are cruelty free and GMP Certified so my question is:
Is a company considered Cruelty- Free if they are GMP Certified?
We do something for against animal testing????
They have to feel pain irritation…but they can’t expose????…

I use many of these brands as I was unaware of the horrible testing they used. Seeing all of the names of popular brands was disgusting. I didn’t even think to look out for it, but now I will. This practice needs to end. Please share this website with others to get the word around.

I’ve been told by Coty that they do not do animal testing on any of their products.
I can’t believe it! Europe has always seemed so humane, and all well-known brands, it turns out, do it, it so devalues their importance and coolness! No more Chanel Guerlain and Loreal !!!

Are you sure Bumble and Bumble is not cruelty free? I saw on Peta that they do not test on animals.

The amount of companies that test on animals is absolutely disgusting!! And half of these i didn’t even know they tested on animals!! I hope they soon realize that this is so wrong on so many different levels

hey! i was just doing a little digging and benefit released an official legal statement, saying they do not test on animals. i could be wrong but i don’t think they belong on this list

I am shocked I thought in this day and age where we can send men to the moon and are going to send men too mars and we can’t find other ways to test these products ,it should be made legal that they have to tell people that what they are selling is tested on animals. I have bought many cosmetics from qvc and if I knew I would not have bought them I contacted them about this and have had no reply but I will be contacting them again.

I really appalled by all these companys which I use.
Shocking I think the public need to be aware that this barbaric act is still happening I really thought that it had been banned wait till you see the list of companies who test on poor defenceless animals causing so much pain it needs to stop I will certainly be checking in future any products I buy are not tested on animals
